Health Effects Of Pau D'Arco

Health Effects Of MoldPau d'arco is an herbal supplement derived from the bark of the Tabebuia avellanedae tree. It contains beta-lapachone and lapachol, which have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Pau d'Arco has been used for centuries to treat conditions ranging from yeast infection to cancer and is generally brewed into a tea for its healing effects. Despite its long history of use, pau d'Arco can cause dangerous side effects when used irresponsibly. Comprehending pau d'Arco's health effects and potential risks allows you to get the most benefit from the supplement while avoiding adverse effects.

Anti-Fungal Properties

One of the main health effects of pau d'Arco is treating fungal infections. Jock itch, yeast infection, athlete's foot and seborrheic dermatitis are among the many conditions that may be relieved using pau d'arco. Allergies and sensitivities to yeast and mold-both fungi-may also respond to treatment with pau d'arco.

While pau d'arco can help kill yeast and other fungi, additional lifestyle changes are needed to prevent it from returning. Limit your daily intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates-both of which act as a food source for fungi like Candida albicans. Avoid stress as much as possible, and aim for 8 or more hours of sleep each night.

Anti-Cancer Properties

The anti-cancer properties of pau d'arco are among it's most intriguing health effects. According to the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, pau d'arco kills lung cancer cells and prevents metastasis of the disease in vitro. However, it would have to be taken in extremely high and toxic doses to provide any benefit in humans, according to the University of California Medical Center. It is not known whether pau d'arco has the same effects in the human body, but such results are promising considering the virulence of most lung cancers.

Pau d'Arco increases the risk for bleeding and anemia and may cause dangerous interactions when taken with certain chemotherapy drugs. Ask your doctor before taking pau d'Arco if you have a history of blood clotting disorders or hemorrhagic stroke.

Anti-Bacterial

Another important health effect of pau d'Arco is its potency against bacterial infections. It contains compounds called naphthaquinones, which are thought to have immune-stimulating and anti-bacterial properties. In animal tests, naphthaquinone compounds have proven effective against malaria and other bacteria. Ask your doctor before using pau d'Arco if you are taking antibiotics for a bacterial infection.

What are the health effects of mold?
We are renting a home and the bathtub leaks. It had leaked for a long time and when we moved it leaked through(it's on the 2nd floor). So there is a hole in our ceiling and the sheetrock has mold on it. My landlord is having problems getting a reliable plumber over here. It has been exposed for a month and we are breathing in the mold spores. I have 2 kids(3 & 5). I was wondering if there is a serious effect on our health from the mold. I myself am real phlemy(?) a lot. My roomate is having issues with her sinuses. I don't know about my kids. Could the mold be causing hers and my problems? And are there other problems that it could cause? Thank you.

Can mold make you sick? Is it possible that the water leaks we had during the summer are making us sick?
My fiance and I have been living in our apartment for about a year and a half now. Its a fairly new building (less than 5 years old), but there were what we now know to be water stains on the ceiling in the living room when we moved in. Last winter a blizzard blew some shingles and siding off the building and they didn't fix it till the fall. We had water damage in our living room (a leaking ceiling with new water stains and the growth of an old one and a leak under/around the a/c which damaged the paint and drywall slightly from what we can see). I don't even think anybody actually did take a look at the damage and if they did nothing got done. This happened before new management took over. Anyways since this summer both my fiancé and I have been having health issues (mine are minor, his are severe). My question is this. What are the possible health effects of mold and should we be really pushing the apartment people to fix this before we sign our new lease? I'll add a bit about the health issues we have been having. For myself its been a slight worsening of regular allergies, a new severe allergy to minocycline (but I took textracycline no problem, i'm also allergic to amoxicillin), some chest congestion that doesnt seem to be going away, a bit of coughing once in awhile, a fungal skin infection i have had for a long time, some bumps under my arms that look like pimples (tetracycline didn't work, and i was allergic to minocycline, so off to the derm I go), a bit of concentration issues, sleep issues. As for my fiancé, his were worse. He had a kidney stone in october that was misdiagnosed at first in september. He ended up having to get it surgically removed. They put a stent in and he got an infection, was allergic to medicine they gave him. So they gave him a different thing. He's has some problems since then, with a heart arrythmia with chest pain, worsening of his poultry allergy, tired all the time, feels kinda icky lots. He also has had a very severe reaction to a new asthma inhaler (same chemical as his old one, just different brand, He hardly uses it since hes mostly outgrown his asthma). He has always had allergies. Hes been having stomach pains again lately. Also is complaining of coughing once in awhile, his immune system is shot, his doctor thinks it might be chronic fatigue for lack of anything else. Is it at all possible these problems (or at least some of them) are due to possible mold in the apartment. We clean regularily and he is a clean freak. Vaccum, wash floors with swiffer wet jet every week, clean bathroom, kitchen counters, coffee tables, wash towels floor rugs and sheets every week. We have a dog that we got this summer but that isn't the issue because we both had dogs of the same breed before without being sick. Our dog also is having allergy problems we think. Yeah we had dripping water from one spot in the ceiling for a day after the bad rainstorms and it poured in (soaked a towel in maybe 15 minutes) around the air conditioner, which was improperly installed in our apartment in the first place. Unfortunately the place was built crappy. Its still a lot better than a lot of places in the city and since the rental availability in the city is only at about 0.6% (since they have had a big boom here with lots of condo conversions without city council stopping them) and we have a dog, finding a new place to live would be hard. Especially since rents have gone through the roof here. Our rent has increased almost $300 in the last year and a half. That's been the average here. Our 2 bedroom apartment is now renting for $1060. Renting a house would cost at least $1300/mo. Our apartment is in the area we like where there are few apartments (most have gone to condos) and the only open apartments don't allow dogs or are rundown. I actually used to live in a house with a seriously mold infested bathroom. Our place seems like spotless compared to that filthy pigsty. I never had allergies until I moved in there. I lived there for 2 years. they still haven't fixed it maybe this summer they will fix it. It's a family owned house. Anyways, we can't see any mold in the apartment, but we know there is water damage and I got to thinking we might have a mold problem after reading stuff online.
