More and more people are becoming victims of mold damaged homes; whether it is from area flooding, ignorance of proper care of high moisture/humidity within their homes or simply due to the age of their home. No matter how your home became mold infested, this article is meant to inform and teach you how to restore your home.
There seems to be a contradiction of views when it comes to what products to use to get rid of mold. Many recommend bleach; however, others say that bleach is not as effective as food or professional grade peroxide. Some have used a cheaper version of peroxide found in Oxyclean. Still others use a combination of methods just to be sure that the mold is completely eradicated by the end of their treatment process.
Wearing protective gloves is highly recommended as both bleach and peroxide are harsh on direct skin contact. A mop, rags or sponges, scrub brush and bucket are other necessary items you might want to have on hand.
For any of these products, simply apply by spraying or pouring (or according to product instructions) the product onto the mold infected area. For example if it is the floor, after you have pulled up the carpeting or tile and cleaned that mess up, then simply spray or pour the cleaning product of your choice on that area. The recommended wait time after applying the cleaning product seems to vary. The desire is to be certain it has killed all the mold spores, as you do not wish to have it come back. Scrub, as you clean up with a mop or rags or a sponge. Be sure to thoroughly rinse these things before reapplying for further treatment. Or even throw them away after you are done.
It isnt uncommon for folks to reapply their cleansing product 2-3 times. Allow the treated area to completely dry before laying new tile, carpeting or caulk around sinks and tubs.
Air purifiers and diffusers are ways to cleanse the air in your home. Whether you found mold beneath your carpeting, or tile in your bathroom or kitchen, or even behind your walls. Wherever it was found, the most important thing to do first is to eradicate it; for your home and your healths sake.
Please Note: You can have a professional evaluate the condition of your home, if your budget allows you to do so. The purpose of this article is to help you save on that expense. You can even send mold samples to be analyzed since there are many different molds and each varies in their effects on a persons health. However, that is more than the scope of this article.
